A Rescue Mission for Your Motivation

When Your Heart Isn’t In It

Yesterday, I sat down to write this week’s newsletter, when I hit a snag. I’d already done the work – I actually had a few issues prepped, ready to polish and send out – but something felt off. I wasn’t excited or confident about what I wrote. It felt more like homework than anything else. My heart wasn’t in it.

Have you ever felt this way? You’re doing the work just fine. You’ve got a good flow, you’re meeting deadlines, but something’s missing. It doesn’t represent who you truly are or what you genuinely have to offer.

The Wake-Up Call

I didn’t have too long to sit and stew on this because I had a call to catch with my mastermind group that afternoon. I shared my struggle, and my coach offered a perspective that cut straight through my fog. They reminded me about the mission—what’s at stake beyond the opens, click rates, and subscriber counts.

He told me a story that really hit home. In a nutshell, it raised the following question:

Would you rush into a burning building and risk life and limb just to grab your wallet? Probably not. But what if your family was trapped inside? You wouldn’t hesitate. Not for a moment.

Your motivation – your WHY – determines your commitment.

Reconnecting With My Mission

That’s what was off. Wrapped up in the hustle of other projects and to-dos of the day, I temporarily became detached from my mission.

My mission isn’t to market myself. It’s not about my wallet. My mission is about rescuing people from burning buildings – from jobs and lifestyles that drain their time, their joy, and potential. It’s about helping aspiring entrepreneurs step confidently into self-employment.

When I made the leap from a 9-to-5 job into full-time self-employment, it changed everything. In a few short years, I’ve gained more flexibility, more family time, and more fulfillment than I ever could in a lifetime of playing the traditional “career development” game. I genuinely believe this path can be transformative for so many others. But making that leap is hard. It’s scary, and it’s easy to get overwhelmed or stuck.

That’s why I write this newsletter. That’s why I coach, create YouTube videos, and help equip people with the tools and strategies to build a strong business. It’s not about content for content’s sake; it’s about helping real people with real dreams to make a better life for themselves and their families.

"Come with me if you want to live."

The Power of Community

Remembering this mission gave me a fresh boost of excitement about my work and writing (which I decided to toss out and start from scratch).

And here’s another crucial takeaway: I didn’t remind myself about my mission. Other people did that for me. We weren’t meant to live our lives (and run our businesses) all on our own. It’s important to get plugged in to a community of people who can expand your perspective, challenge you, and offer encouragement when you’re struggling.

Your Challenge

Maybe you’re grinding away and feeling like you’re just going through the motions, too. If you are, here’s my challenge to you:

Take 5 minutes. Right now! Ask yourself why you started in the first place. Who are you trying to help? Why is it important? How can you use your skills to make their lives better, even just a little? Write it down.

Connecting your work to a deeper purpose can transform a chore into a passion project. It isn’t just good for motivation—it’s essential for sustainable success.

So, what’s your mission? Keep it front and center. And if you’re struggling to find it, drop me a message. I’d love to help you uncover it.
